In 2004 "Lil' Hand" was released on Canadian label, Ultrasound Recordings, the album from which the house anthem, "The Cure and The Cause" was born. The single was remixed by Dennis Ferrer in 2005 and it's slow rise to fame did not pinnacle until it was re-released later in 2006 on UK giant Defected, where it reached No. 23 in the UK main Top 75 and No. 1 in the dance chart. The song was given a US release on legendary label Strictly Rhythm in 2007. Having spent downtime behind the counters of various establishments he consolidated the rest of his hours creating archives of electronic music; each track different from the other, incorporating multitudes of styles and disparate influences and obscure samples and base material. Having sated the need to create these volumes of material, he poked his head into the world by way of a collection of instantaneously raved-about remixes, that quickly found the interested of various labels, blogs and taste makers, leading to requests for him to re-edit the likes of Little Boots, Telepathe, Bloc Party, Simian Mobile Disco, Health and The Field. In the meantime, Gold Panda began culling his back-archive of material for a series of low key releases: the first was ‘Miyamae’, a 12” on Various, followed by the ‘Quitters Raga’ 7” on Make Mine, and the third, ‘Before’ was released digitally and on 250 limited CDs via Puregroove. Now having essentially cleared the decks. In October 2010, Gold Panda released his debut album Lucky Shiner. A culmination of years of work spent refining his sui generis sound, the record was released to huge critical acclaim. An artist at ease traversing genre boundaries in search of new auditory frontiers - whether mixing dissected Hip Hop beats or the pulsating flourishes of minimal Techno - this apropos release will cement the foundations laid by previous output and visions whilst expanding his canon to unparalleled limits. As electronic music gradually arcs into a period of unprecedented successes, Lucky Shiner pits GP firmly at the forefront of a new wave of artists unafraid to challenge preconceptions of what music can be. Having been nominated as one of the BBC’s sound of 2010 contenders, he began 2010 with shows around the world with Caribou, Health, SMD and Autolux, finding himself on magazine covers in the UK, Japan and Europe. Lucky Shiner’s the piece that completes the picture. Originating in crystal clear vision, the nuance and frenetic cadence of life and the mind’s constant disequilibrium means its final realisation stands as a product that’ll provoke thought as much as enjoyment; pathos as much as praise. “Lots of factors affected the way it came together.“ Gold Panda explains, “touring, mixing, moving house and splitting with a girlfriend. Family, friends and lovers related, places I‘ve never been”. Toby Kaar Toby Kaar is..... I am Toby Kaar, I should be filling out this stuff in the first person. I like to make music. It's one of my favourite things to do in the world. I hate bigging myself up, I reckon my music should speak for itself. So here is some of my music. Thanks for listening, folks! Friday, June 10 at 11:00pm - June 11 at 2:00am Line-up : Fabrizio Maurizi [M_nus/Memento] Robin Keys Adm: €10 before 12/ €14 afterwards. ...Click Cork are proud to present Fabrizio Maurizi. Support: Robin Keys. Robin is well known in Cork circles, as an outstanding young dj with a vast knowledge of all styles of electronica coupled with his residency in the Long Island he is quickly making a serious name for himself. Fabrizio Maurizi is a native of Bologna (Italy), a city that has always paid particular attention to the original Detroit Techno movement, making it the perfect place to grow up in terms of music. After a brief spell as part of the city's militant illegal rave scene, Fabrizio soon graduated to residencies at some of the most important clubs in the country. Fabrizio started producing his own sounds, switching to music software programs after 10 years of studying piano. Completely hooked on very low bassline frequencies, his tracks explore the sometimes dark, sometimes funky side of techno, using completely mad vocal samples to give his music a unique flavour. Fabrizio definitely has DJing in his blood, liking nothing more than to lead the dancefloor out of darkness into light and vice versa, allowing his music to slowly evolve through the interplay of rhythmic analog elements and jumping basslines. His dj set is an endless journey between house and techno, the sun and the moon, with no boundaries between the music genres: the organic elements are perfectly melted with futuristic sci-fi atmospheres. In 2007 he founded with his friend/partner Idriss D the label Memento, releasing his first ep "Hasta la Baldoria Siempre" that was an incredible start for an unknown artist and label: the ep joined quickly the top ten everywhere. One year after Fabrizio realized his dream joining the Minus family, where he started to produce and performing with. Now Fabrizio is delivering his unique music all over the world, playing in the best clubs like Fabric , Rex , Robert Johnson , Womb , Cocoricò , Cocoon…just to name a few, garnering an underground very high reputation for his unmistakable dj set. |
